I get the same question from customers a lot, especially around this time of year: when’s the actual right time to book an oil spray service? Most people assume rustproofing is a fall or winter errand, something to squeeze in right before the first snow. If it were my own truck, I wouldn’t plan it that way. Timing this right matters almost as much as getting it done at all, and summer is what I tell most of my customers to aim for.
What the Service Covers, Briefly
I’ve already written about what rustproofing and undercoating actually involve, so I won’t repeat all of it here. Short version: it’s an oil-based spray that works its way into seams and cavities where rust gets started, and it stays flexible instead of hardening the way some coatings do. It’s also safe on hybrid and electric vehicles, wiring included. What I want to get into here is timing, because when you book changes how well the whole thing ends up working for you.
Why Summer Is a Smart Time to Book
Most shops get slammed in October and November, right when the first cold snap hits and everyone remembers rust exists at the same time. I get why. But by then, I’m booking behind a lot of other Ohio drivers who had the same idea. Book in summer and that rush disappears entirely. The protection is already on the metal before the salt trucks even roll out.
If Your Last Treatment Was Around Last Fall
If it’s been about a year since your last spray, you’re roughly due again right now. I don’t think of it as a calendar reminder so much as a gap in coverage. Push it back a few months and you’ve opened a window for rust to get a foothold, especially on a vehicle that’s already been through a couple of Ohio winters.
If You’re New to Krown This Year
Bought a vehicle this spring? You’re ahead of most people I see. Getting it treated now means it’s covered before the first salt truck goes out. Almost every bad rust case I run into on a newer vehicle traces back to the same thing: nobody treated it in year one, and by the time somebody did, there was already damage to work around.
Road Trips Wear on the Underside More Than People Think
Summer means road trips, and road trips mean miles. Heat, humidity, and long highway stretches put real wear on the underside of a vehicle. I don’t think most people consider that part when they’re packing the car for a trip to the lake or a drive to see family. Go into that stretch with a fresh application, and the miles you’re logging this summer work with you instead of against you.
Booking Now Beats Fighting the Fall Rush
Here’s the practical piece on top of all that: my calendar. Once October hits, everyone remembers rust at the same time, and my schedule fills up fast. Book in summer and you get in and out on your own timeline. Book in November and you get whatever slot is left.
Who This Matters Most For
If you drive a truck or SUV that spends real time on back roads or job sites, timing counts for even more, since those vehicles already take on more punishment underneath. But if you’re planning to keep any vehicle more than a couple years, the same logic holds. Book it now instead of waiting for a reason to.
Don’t Wait for the First Snow to Think About This
I’d rather have this conversation with you in July than in December, with slush already on the ground and a line out the door. If any of this sounds like your situation, a respray that’s due, a new vehicle, a summer full of road trips, now’s the time to get on the calendar. Call me at (330) 785-7895 or schedule your oil spray appointment before the fall rush hits.
